At 84 years old, Joseph Kilo retired from Coal Mining after 50 years of service
On Memorial Day May 25th 1997 while fishing with his Son Charles, he landed his dream of a lifetime trophy Brook Trout
He had only imagined the feeling
In his heart he felt like the new world record holder

The world record was set in 1915 two years after he was born, weighing in at 14 lb 5-8 oz

By Dr. J. W. Cook

(14 1/2 LBS noted in the description below the mount, this would mean it weighed 14LBS 8oz) I found conflicting information while doing research online.

The Trout is believed to have been caught between July 15 and July 21, 1915 when it was officially weighted.

Joseph was drawn to trout fishing, his life long dream was to beat that record
It sure looks like a world record Brook Trout and no one could tell him any different. Joseph and Charles weighed the Trout on site at 15 lbs 4oz.
Pap was fishing with 17 lb test, "always after the big one" said his son Charles.
The Trout was put on ice until the following morning, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters were notified and informed that a fish that looked exactly like a Brook Trout weighing 15 lbs. 4oz. was brought into Nagagami Outfitters Camp. They advised us to bring the trout into town and get an official weight at the Post Office. OFAH suggested we secure the tail and freeze the fish wrapping it in a wet towel and ship this remarkable fish to the Ontario Royal Museum.
The official weight at the government inspected scale was 14 lbs. 7.8oz.
Once in the Museum's possession, they conducted a test and the results pointed to the Splake Species, they did not follow up with any more testing. We had been assured that DNA tests to determine the age of this trout would be done. The second tests described at the time would involve taking part of the jaw bone to measure the age rings, surely this test would have answered any questions one might have?
Blue Bell Lake which had native brook trout was stocked with splake in 1990. Could this fish only be 7 or 8 years old?
The world record stands at 14lbs 5-8oz. set in 1915
